You sigh deeply as you feel the tension melting
away. Hands gently cradle your head. The sense of soothing
warmth and well being that you have started to feel spreads through your
body. As the session progresses you notice the headache you had isn't
there anymore. The pain in your back seems better. Remarkable. Even more
impressive, the healing hands are yours (or your child's, or your mate's
or anyone else who has been attuned to the Reiki energy).
Reiki is a Japanese word which means "Universal
Life-force Energy". It is an ancient healing science which was rediscovered
last century by the Japanese scholar, Dr. Mikao Usui. It has since spread
world-wide and is now practiced by millions daily.
As quantum physics is now proving, everything in
the universe is energy. The lower the frequency of energy, the more solid
it appears. Our physical bodies are made of energy vibrating at different
frequencies. For example, bones are vibrating at a lower frequency that
skin, and so they seem to be more solid. Our emotions and thoughts
are also energy. A blockage in any of the frequencies will eventually cause
disharmony in the others. Stress causes energy blockages and therefore
effects our body, emotions and our thinking.
Reiki is a healing energy which is drawn into the
body wherever it is needed most and dis-integrates the energy blockages
on all levels. It is very simple to learn and use. It is not a religion.
It is not a cult. It does not require mind control. This technique is a
powerful, yet gentle way to replenish lost vitality and balance your energy
to accelerate healing and promote well-being of body, mind and spirit.
Reiki is profound in the relief of stress and tension
and the resulting dis-ease. The American Institute of Stress estimates
that between 75% and 95% of ALL doctor's visits are the result of reaction
to stress. It is known that continual negative stress prevents the body
from fulfilling it's natural function of repairing, regenerating and protecting
itself. If I had to describe Reiki in only a few words, "RELAXING" would
be one of them.
On the physical level it relieves pain and accelerates
healing of injuries (sports and otherwise), cuts, burns, etc. It is complementary
to all standard and alternative treatments. Those who are seriously ill
can continue to receive orthodox medical attention and use Reiki to maximize
their chances of recovery. It reduces the side effects of drugs, chemotherapy,
etc.
Under stress most of us do not deal directly with
whatever situation is triggering the stress. We tend to "try" to cope by
repressing emotions, building defensive walls, blocking out memories. Eventually
our bodies produce symptoms, or dis-ease to let us know that our evasive
actions are not dealing with the issue.
I said that "relaxing" is one way to describe Reiki.
"NURTURING" would be another. I have been told by many people receiving
Reiki that the energy feels so nurturing, so loving. I agree. It is a feeling
of unconditional, loving acceptance. Hurts and fears and withheld emotions
can be released and healing can take place. Using Reiki as a self treatment
reawakens in many, particularly those who have been physically abused,
a sense of reconnection with their body and their emotions in a positive
way.
I was first introduced to Reiki in mid 1990. After
many years and many avenues of self-awareness I knew I had found a key
ingredient. This was a tool I could use, to take responsibility for my
own well-being, to increase my intuitive, intellectual and creative processes.
It was a way for me to help those around me to regain their wholeness.
We are all connected. "When one is healed, all are healed."
