The finished mold is in the lower right corner of this image. It is open and standing upright. The left side shows the inside impression of the Cat and the right side shows the outside of the Cat. Grooves in the mold coming down from the Cat is the impression from the "Y" you saw a few slides back.
At the very bottom of the mold is a hemispheical depression to hold the injection nozzle. Just to the left of the mold is a pink wax injection just pulled from this mold. It is laying on its back. The front of the Cat is on the left side of the wax and the back, on the right.
Above this is a wax injector or 'wax pot'. It is a metal cylinder with heating elements built into it. There is a white pressure gauge and a pressure regulator at the top of the pot. This allows the jeweler to maintain a reservoir of molten wax at a specific temperature and pressure.
When the two halves of the mold are put together and pressed against a nozzle on the side of the injector, molten wax flows into the mold.
At the bottom center of the image are two brown plastic mold plates. They are put above and below the two halves of the rubber mold to hold it firm and flat as it is pushed against the wax nozzle. To the left of the mold plates is a stack of rubber molds ready to have wax injected into them.
The red cylinder behind them is a spray can that contains a mold lubricant.
This keeps the waxes from sticking to the molds.
