A view of our progress. The pattern is becoming apparent now. The next image is how far we got on Sunday.
Here are some images of our progress today.
We had completed this much before lunch.
I climbed the stairs to the top of the new tower. This image shows how much we'd colored by late afternoon:
This is how we left the labyrinth this evening. We expect to finish coloring tomorrow and hope to begin sealing it on Wednesday, after it is completely dry.
What is good about these images is that it shows how much of the coloring is getting done. Notice the hour glass shapes (they're called 'labrys'). There are none painted on Sunday. Monday, nine of them have been painted! We will paint the center, the rest of the lines, and the lunations on tuesday. We're looking forward to Denise' visit. She so wanted to paint with us today, but she was dressed for her office, and not 'getting down' on the concrete labyrinth. Concrete tends to abrade clothing. Note the duct tape repair of the seat of my pants in this image. We're all getting a good laugh at my expense for losing the seat of my pants to the labyrinth:
I'll post an image of the finished coloring tomorrow. They say that the pattern will not be available for walking until this fall. That would be proper. In fact, the sealant that we plan to cover the design with will be dry enough to walk on 24 hours after the last coat is applied. With the impending rain on Tuesday evening, we cannot say exactly when we will seal the labyrinth. Unfortunately, there is a lot of work left to be done on the garden surrounding the pattern. A lot of dust is expected. Walking on this layer of dust that could accumulate on the labyrinth may scratch the finish. Better to wait until the official opening date.
We got to meet some interesting people today. Brian came by to observe and report back to the Board of Directors. He said that his job was to do nothing, but I suspect that he invests a lot of time organizing his observations and expressing them in a succinct way. At the end of the day, I had the privelege of meeting Sister Ursula. It is always a very great privelege for me to be in the presence of one who has dedicated their life to Spirituality. Thank you for coming by Sister Ursula. It is a treat to meet you!
Visit the Labyrinth Coalition's website to read about their upcoming "Midwest Labyrinth Gathering." Ellen Meuch from Wheaton is a panelist in one of the round table discussions. She is an expert on the labyrinth in under served populations and regularly presented a labyrinth walk in a prison until she was run off by religious conservatives who misunderstood the positive effects of the labyrinth. She serves on the Veriditas council.
There are only a few spaces left at the Gathering. Please call John or Gail at
