We started to color the labyrinth at around 2:45 pm Thursday. First we had thoroughly wash away the dust of cutting.

We need the labyrinth to be spotlessly clean so that our color will adhere to the cement.
We use a concrete polymer with pigment to color the pattern. I thought that the color was going to be too subtle at first. Once we'd 'painted' a little ways, I could see that the brick color was perfect for the setting.

Tools of the trade.

These are the tools with which we color the lines. A recently colored line borders the top of the outside bin. The inside bowl holds the moist colorant. We use a regular paint brush to dab the color on. Wooden ruler is used to stir the cement. The plastic ruler helps to keep the color in the lines while we paint. The bottom of the image shows a line that has not been colored.

The first few lines colored on the labyrinth.

We made really quick progress on coloring the lines. Look to the upper left of the labyrinth to see these lines. Once we put sealer over the whole labyrinth, the contrast between the paths and lines will be obvious.

Chuck, Walt, and John talking about color.
Reverand Walt's friendly presence is always a tonic to us. He comes by three or four times a day, nods and smiles, and says, "What about this?" His gentle guidance is an inspiration. He is wearing a really cool sweater. There are some who think it's too geeky. We really love it!

I had the opportunity to sit down with him for a few minutes and record a brief interview on Thursday. I'll transcribe it over the next few days and link it to the site. Look for your stained glass rose window. That will be the link to the interview.

It's raining again. Looks like the next few days will be a game of dodge the rain. We can color for a few hours and stop just in time before the rain starts.
