Trinity Episcopal Church - Santa Barbara California

Early July 2003

Here are some images from Trinity

The setting here is very interesting. State Street, the main downtown street in Santa Barbara, is just off to the left of this picture. The church embraces the labyrinth from the right and bottom of the image. This transformational pattern is cradled by a spiritual institution, yet available to main stream society.

People walking by on the street kept coming in to see what we were doing. Labyrinth enthusiasts walked, rode their bikes and skateboards, or drove their cars in to talk with us. It is really fulfilling to get so much support from so many people while we work.
The bell tower  of Trinity (in the upper left) was my vantage point for the first image. That's State Street at the center right part of the image.

State Street is a wonderful collection of quality stores and restaurants! We found delicious shrimp and crab, Cajun, sushi, steaks, French, Mexican, and American foods in just a few of the cafes! I put on a little weight again, despite the long days on the labyrinth!

This is the same image as above taken with a better wide angle lens. You can just make out Robert and Judy at the right edge of the image. They are wearing the white protective suits we wear when we're sealing the pattern. This is the last image we took before we packed up and left Santa Barbara.
Robert Ferre, Judy Hopen, and Chuck Hunner put this pure Chartres pattern on the slab poured by Walberg Custom Concrete.

A very Great Thanks to all the volunteers who came out to help us! A Special Thanks to Margaret Finch for putting us up...and putting up with us for sooo long! :-)

Everyone at Trinity treated us like royalty! I love making labyrinths! Their labyrinth committee wined and dined us at the Wharf and at a private residence while we were there. They came by and brought us ice cream, lemonade, and really delicious pastries!

Trinity Episcopal Church Mission Statement

we will share the love of God
in a way that nurtures body, mind and spirit.

Demonstrating God's love for the world,
we will serve a diverse population and accept
one another without reservations.

By including all people as one family in worship and
service to God, we are all empowered and inspired
by the Spirit to continue the work of Jesus Christ.

Start here to find their extensive labyrinth story. You will find their Labyrinth Committee and lots of pictures of the labyrinth under construction. Prudence Groube, parish secretary, turns out to be an ace image maker. The photos and their excellent processing are a small part of her good work.
