Three angels showed up on Thursday. Sorry that I don't have a picture of Teresa just yet. But here are Pat and Fred in 'the position', coloring part of the lines. I wasn't quite satisfied with the color when it came to the final inspection before putting on the last coats of sealer.

Fred Edwards and Pat Vieten

I am a lot older today than I thought I was yesterday.

Maybe that's 'more mature'.

I am very grateful to Teresa and Pat and John for answering my call for volunteers so quickly. It is a great honor for me to work with a lady and gentlemen of their experience.

Teresa and I painted alone for a while in the morning. We found out that we're both 'from' Albuquerque. Coincidence? We quickly became friends. The labyrinth has a way of doing that - making friends of the people who come together over it. Teresa and I got to talk about our therapy practices and what it is like to be in relationships like that with folks in pain. It's always a tonic to me to talk with other energy workers.

Our whole crew noticed this friendliness from the moment we arrived in Redlands. We have been welcomed with open arms by everyone on the Labyrinth Committee and, actually, by everyone in town!

Fred and Pat are a few years older than I am. As I write this the next morning, I'm a little worried about their knees. But that's one of the hazards of working on a labyrinth project like this. No! Not the worry! . . . Sore knees! It's a given that if you invest as many hours as they did, all scrunched up and bent over to paint color onto lines, you'll be sore.

I remember listening to a Robert Bly tape a few years ago about 'Men's Work'. He talked about 'something' passing from older men to younger men, invisibly, powerfully. I feel like I received a full dose of that essence. There is a feeling of being a little calmer and at the same time more committed and focused in my life today. I don't know if that makes any sense to you. I do know that I am very happy that I had the chance to work on a labyrinth with these Men yesterday.

Thank you Labyrinth for bringing this into my life.

I have just some detailing and sealing to do today. The smell of xylene will be strong around the pattern today and tomorrow. I now plan to put the final layer of sealer on tomorrow morning, Saturday. Pray for dry weather.

My cell phone is on. The number is 828-216-1422. I'm happy to answer any messages you might leave. Annette and I will hit the road back to Asheville after that.

If you'd like to receive updates about Golden Spirit and Labyrinth Enterprises labyrinth projects, please send me an email and I'll put you on the notification list. I will not share your address with others unless you tell me to.
