We stopped working early today. The blue tarps on the pattern are there to protect the fresh color coat just applied.

Rain started about 3 pm. It was light but we had no way of knowing whether it would get heavier or not. Very light rain will not hurt fresh concrete. Heavy rain makes little pock marks in the soft concrete and also makes the color bleed into areas where it is not wanted! So we stopped. Another effect of the rain is polymer separation. The color coat is a concrete polymer mix with pigment added. When the color coat gets wet within about 24 hours of application, some of the polymer separates from the mix and floats to the surface. Hence, the lighter areas of color. This is normal. I will restore the color to its original state with the sealer. I add extra xylene to the first coat of sealer. This burns off the extra polymer leaving just the original, darker color.

We still have plenty of time to finish the work before Friday when Annette Hunner and I start our road trip back to Asheville.

Both John and Dan have plane reservations for early Wednesday morning. We expect to be finished with our detailing by this evening, Tuesday. I'll come back and seal the concrete by myself on Wednesday and Thursday.
