University of Redlands Labyrinth November 7, 2004
The Vigil is tonight, 8 pm, at the Memorial Chapel. I listed it as a 'rehersal' yesterday! It is very much more than that. It is the beginning of the Feast of Lights cycle. The combined choirs directed by Jeff Rickard will sing several pieces from the Feast of Lights program, without orchestra.
I'm really looking forward to enjoying the music tonight!

This is how far we got with our coloring yesterday, the day of Robert's presentation. We only worked a half day so that we would be completely ready for the presentation. We can use a little rest now and then! :-)
We made good progress today. This is a great relief to me. So far all our progress has been more subtle. The cuts in the concrete were not visible from 50 yards away. Now you can begin to see that something is taking place here. You can't see outside the left edge of this image but I've finished coloring over half of the lunations. The lunations are those scallops around the outside edge of the pattern. They are not as straight forward to color as the lines.
We use rulers as barriers or masks when we are coloring. The ruler is put into the groove we cut. We then 'paint' the colored concrete onto the line. The ruler keeps the color from slopping onto the path. The lines between the paths are relatively 'easy' to color. The lunations and more tightly curved areas are another matter.
Lunations consist of two curves and a short, straight section. You have to move the ruler and hold it in a weird position to keep the color off the part of the labyrinth you don't want to color. Then you have to change to a much smaller ruler to color the short area of the lunation.
Dan called me a luna-tech yesterday!
Fred and Janet Edwards invited us over for a soak last night. Delightful. But the best part was the bread pudding! Thank you, Janet. We really love your art. Beautiful colors well arranged!
Fred also gave me a bunch of images. They are really good history which I'll post as I have time.
On to the next page of our Redlands Adventure.
