The last image was of a vacant area waiting to be filled with lunations. Here is an image of the lunations after they have been drawn and 'masked'. We mask the edges of the walls of the labyrinth because that is where we are going to put our color. In this case "Dolores Blue".
The lunations pictured here have been measured so that they are all consistant. There is a real beauty and rythm to them when they are consistant. Their edges are defined by masking tape. Their centers are covered by a water proof paper that will protect the concrete underneath when we apply our color to the walls:
Mother Claire Watts comes down every day to say a good word and take pictures of our progress for her friends. It's fun to imagine our images being sent to people other than those who normally visit this blog!
There is a three wheeled, padded seat in the foreground that allows us to scoot along and lay down tape. Jess is cutting away the plastic on either side of the labyrinth wall and then taping down the plastic. You can see some finished, taped walls in front of her, and not-yet-taped labyrinth behind her. Notice the black and silver tool box on the plastic. It is windy here! We're constantly moving weights like the tool box around to keep the plastic from blowing away.
A closer view of the taped labyrinth:
The entrance of the labyrinth ready for coloring! The compressor for our sprayer sits in the center of the labyrinth. You can see the plastic covering the paths and the bare concrete walls.
Page 3 will show two methods of coloring. One didn't work as well as we would have liked!
