Tuesday was an exciting day for us. We waited and waited for the color to arrive via UPS. Half covered labyrinth ready to paint.

Around 10:45 am the driver came and told us that there'd been weather delays in Knoxville, hence the late arrival of our new color.

Chuck blogging while he waited:

Writing.

Peter practicing his lines for a new play with Pamela: Practicing my lines.

Judy was on the phone trying to trace the color...

We mixed up a batch and began the coloring process. The color coat gets mixed in 'batches'. We mix a small amount (4 pounds) of cement with water and pigment to make a batch. Then we paint it on the lines, keeping the color off the path.

I'll have pictures of us painting posted on Wednesday evening's blog.

The excitement of today came at lunch time. We'd just sat down to eat when Pamela said, "It's raining!" We sprinted up the hill in the sudden downpour to cover our work. The guys making the cement climbing rocks had covered our mixing station, but the labyrinth with the work we'd just completed was uncovered. Wish I had pictures of that race with disaster. It is bad for the colored cement to get wet within 24 hours of it being painted. We have to take an extra step during our last stage. We use a special chemical to treat the colored cement if it's gotten wet.

We pulled the plastic cover back over the labyrinth. Some rain had already pooled on the slab. It had rained hard in a short time!
Judy crawled under the plastic and began sopping up the puddles of water that were on the lines we'd just painted. Look just to the right of Peter's knee. You can just see Judy's foot in there. Incidentally, you can also see the lines we painted as horizontal lines above and below her foot.

Cleaning up the rain

She placed 5 big buckets around our freshly painted concrete to hold the plastic off of it. You can see them as bumps underneath the plastic in this image.

Buckets holding the plastic off the paint.

More images on Wednesday!
