Church of the Good Shepard, Augusta, Georgia

August, 2004

The Good Shepard renovated their Fellowship Hall. Their Rector knew that a labyrinth would fit into the new space. The paths are more narrow than the original Chartres. The smaller pattern still works to calm and center those who choose to walk it.

The floor is a super fine grained polymer concrete. It was covered by paper when we arrived. This image shows Robert, the geomancer with tape and ruler in hand, standing at one end of the Hall.

The renovation is magnificent. The dark wood paneling and rafters lends a Renaissance feel to the room. It's a very grounded and supportive space. I shouted something like, "SMILE", and Robert froze for this one. Better to not disturb the meditative state that we get into when laying out the pattern!

This is one of the coolest things about doing this work. There is something about laying out this pattern that is totally conducive to witness consciousness. In this state of mind it is very easy to focus. Expanded awareness with easy and fluid focus are normal.

I'll post more images as I get them from the Good Shepard. I had to leave after the cutting was done. Robert and Judy H. came back the next week and finished staining the pattern.
