This picture shows a motorized grinding wheel removing silver form the tip of an enshin. The motor is off to the left, out of the picture. The green tape on my fingers is to insulate me from the heat generated by the friction of the wheel on the silver.
When the enshin is dipped after this operation, the water sputters and steams from the heat.
Just above my fingers and the enshin is a series of diagonal lines. That is the screen covering the entrance to the dust collector. The dust collector protects my lungs by capturing the dusts created during the grinding and polishing steps.
I use a series of grinding wheels, coarse to fine, to shape the metal.
Then I use another series of cloth wheels, charged with tripoli or rouge,
to polish the metal.
